Electric Cycles in Meerut
Sports-goods workshops along Suraj Kund Road send thousands of people across Meerut every day, often 5 to 10 km, and after a long shift an e-cycle takes the edge off the ride home. Ride the cantonment early; save the narrow Begumpul bazaars for when you're patient.

Cantonment roads, bat workshops and the new metro
It's two towns knotted together. The cantonment, one of the biggest in the country, has wide leafy roads around Abu Lane and Sadar Bazaar, quiet even at nine in the morning. Go south and east and you reach the old city: Begumpul, Kotwali, Suraj Kund, a tangle of narrow bazaars where a cycle outruns any car. Ride the cantonment early before the sun builds. Keep the old lanes for when you're feeling patient, since the bell counts for more than speed there.
Sport pays the rent. Meerut and Jalandhar are the country's two big sports-goods hubs, and SG (Sanspareils Greenlands), Sareen Sports and BDM all have their base here. Workshops along Suraj Kund Road and other industrial pockets employ thousands who cross town daily, commonly 5 to 10 km. Once the shift ends, assist makes the ride home easier.
Transport changed fast. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway cut the road trip to Delhi, and in February 2026 the last stretch of the Namo Bharat corridor, Meerut South to Modipuram, opened along with the Meerut Metro on the same tracks. Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram stations are now inside the city. A short pedal to the closest one, then the train: an ordinary commute these days.
At about 247 m the land is a plain, and main roads fan out like spokes. Delhi Road. Garh Road towards the Ganga. Hapur Road and Baghpat Road. The Roorkee road heading north past Modipuram. May's the hottest month, mean high 38.4 °C. Rain arrives late June, and most of the roughly 790 mm is down by mid-September. Winter mornings are lovely. In summer afternoons you'll want to be inside, or at least under the cantonment trees.

Electric cycles in Meerut: FAQs
Yes. The metro uses Namo Bharat infrastructure, with stops including Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram. Pedal a few kilometres, park, board. A folding model is simplest if you'd like to take the bike along.
About 10 to 12 km via the Roorkee road, so 35 to 45 minutes on assist. It's flat all the way. Traffic around Begumpul can slow you at rush hour.
No. The UP policy's purchase subsidy covers electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, goods carriers and buses, so e-cycles pay full price in Meerut.
Not on the fast carriageway; that's for motor vehicles. Use the old highway and service roads, and for Delhi itself, take Namo Bharat.
No. A pedal-assist e-cycle with a motor up to 250 W and assisted top speed of 25 km/h isn't a motor vehicle under CMVR rule 2(u), so it needs no licence, registration or insurance.
Try the cantonment around Abu Lane and Sadar Bazaar. Roads are wide and tree-lined, with calmer traffic than Begumpul or Suraj Kund. Once assist feels natural, test the old city on a quiet Sunday morning.
