How we started
EMotorad began in Pune in 2020, founded by four people who believed the electric cycle could be practical, aspirational and genuinely affordable, not a niche recreational toy.
They weren't building imported bikes with Indian stickers. They set out to design electric cycles for Indian roads, Indian riders and Indian budgets - and good enough to compete anywhere in the world. That belief still runs the company today.
Six years. One electric movement.
Here’s how we got here.
- 2020
The First Pedal Forward
Four founders, one workshop, and one vision—to build premium electric cycles that ordinary Indians could afford. EMotorad launched its first commercial models and shipped its earliest production batches, proudly Made in India.
- 2021
The Idea Crossed Borders
EMotorad expanded into international markets and raised a USD 3 million seed round to strengthen manufacturing, product development, and distribution.
- 2022
From Assembling to Building
Manufacturing capabilities scaled significantly, reaching an annual capacity of around 90,000 e-cycles while expanding the product portfolio and retail network across India.
- 2023
Scale Found Its Next Gear
EMotorad raised a USD 20 million Series B led by Panthera Growth Partners, accelerating product innovation, manufacturing growth, and international expansion.
- 2024
India Became the Manufacturing Engine
EMotorad unveiled its integrated e-cycle gigafactory in Pune with a target capacity of 500,000 e-cycles annually. MS Dhoni also joined as an equity investor and brand partner.
- 2026
Six Years In, The Next Climb
EMotorad now serves commuter, leisure, health, kids, and micromobility segments across 800+ dealerships in 18+ countries, while also achieving a Guinness World Record.
