Electric Cycles in Gangtok
From MG Marg to the upper suburbs it's climb, climb, climb, which is why the town even runs a cable car. Only a geared e-cycle with a strong motor makes sense here, and a long climb can cut the range on the box in half, so end every outing going downhill.

- Steep ridge roads
T-Rex Air
₹37,499Almost every road is a slope, so gearing and suspension matter. The T-Rex Air is our nearest hill specialist, though its 50 km claim is a flat-ground number.
- Heavier climbs with range
Ranger
₹58,999Long wet climbs drain packs. The Ranger carries 12.75 Ah and rolls on fat tyres, but don't expect anywhere near 75 km on steep loops.
- Maximum battery for hill days
Viper
₹66,999Our largest battery is the Viper's 15.6 Ah. Gangtok's gradients will eat into it quicker than the claim suggests, yet nothing else gives you as much in reserve.

Steep ridge roads and a very wet monsoon
Walk up from MG Marg towards the upper suburbs once and you'll know. Climb, climb, climb. The town runs a cable car, one kilometre long with three stops, between the lower suburbs, central Gangtok and the upper ones, which tells you how locals feel about the slopes.
Pick the toughest geared machine available. The T-Rex Air is the obvious one; the Ranger, with its large fat-tyre pack, is the other. Remember the range figure on the box comes from flat ground, and a long climb can halve it. Bring the charger. Try to end every outing going downhill.
Then the weather. 3,574 mm of rain in a year, July heaviest at about 650 mm. Slides happen every year (June 1997 killed 38 people), and NH 10 runs to Siliguri, 114 km off, and the monsoon can close it. Warmest month is August, yet afternoons top out at 22.1 °C. Cold isn't your battery's enemy. Slick roads are.

Electric cycles in Gangtok: FAQs
For most, yes. A geared climber, the T-Rex Air or a strong Ranger, can cope on many streets, but you'll get far less than the claimed range, and the steepest ramps may mean getting off and pushing.
They should be. 3,574 mm falls in a year and slips happen annually. Stay home in a downpour, don't ride under loose slopes, and keep your brakes in good shape.
No licence, registration or insurance. CMVR rule 2(u) leaves out pedal-assist e-cycles with a motor of up to 250 W and assisted speed of up to 25 km/h.
None. Sikkim offers no state purchase subsidy for e-cycles; its EV benefits are road-tax and registration relief on registered vehicles.
