Electric bicycles in India follow a regulation of operating on power less than 250W, with the maximum speed of 25 kmph; and so you would not need to showcase a driving licence on you to ride an e-cycle. These vehicles have an upper limit on its top speed and you have free reign in your city to cruise the streets while staying safe in your lane. An objective approach says that individuals do require a licence to ride an e-cycle, but this completely depends on the model and speed limit of your e-cycle.
As per the regulations laid out by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), electric vehicles are also not taxed. The documents needed to register an EV in India are pretty basic. You’d need to verify your purchase with the usual identity proofs and that’s all you’d need.
