EMotorad X1 vs X2: Which Electric Cycle Should You Buy?

The X1 and X2 are two of our most popular electric cycles in India, and one of the questions we're asked most is which one to buy. They look alike, they share a lot under the skin, and they're only a few thousand rupees apart. So what's actually different?

This guide compares the EMotorad X1 and X2 on battery, range, features, build and price, straight from our own spec sheets, so you can pick the right one for your rides.

• Choose the X1 (₹27,999) if you want the most affordable way into a full-size EMotorad, with a classic diamond frame and the same motor, battery and range as the X2.
• Choose the X2 (₹31,999) if you want an easier step-through frame, wider 2.4-inch tyres with puncture protection and a colour display, and you're happy to pay ₹4,000 more for the comfort and convenience.

This is the easy part: there's no difference. Both cycles use the same removable 36V 7.65Ah lithium-ion battery and the same 36V 250W rear hub motor. Both are rated at up to 35 km on pedal assist (PAS) and up to 30 km on throttle, and both charge in 3-4 hours with a 2A charger.

In real life, your range will depend on your weight, the road, traffic, tyre pressure and how much you use the throttle versus pedal assist. Riding mostly on PAS gets you closer to the top figure. Because the X1 and X2 match on range, choose between them on comfort, features and price, not battery.

The X1 has a classic high-tensile steel frame with a top tube, the sporty look many riders prefer.

The X2 has a high-tensile steel step-through frame. The lower top tube makes it much easier to get on and off, especially in traffic, in office wear or a saree, or if you're shorter or have stiff knees.

The X1 runs 27.5" x 2.1" nylon tyres, a good all-round size for city roads.

The X2 steps up to wider 27.5" x 2.4" tyres with up to 3 mm puncture protection. Wider tyres add comfort over potholes and speed breakers and give a bit more grip, while the puncture protection helps on streets with glass or thorns.

The X1 has a simple battery indicator on the throttle, which is all many riders need.

The X2 has a Cluster C10 colour display, so you can see more of your ride information at a glance.

Both have 100 mm front suspension, mechanical disc brakes with auto cut-off (the motor stops when you brake), double-wall alloy rims and a single-speed drivetrain that's simple to maintain. Both come with up to 5 years of warranty on the frame; motor and battery warranties are listed on each product page.

The X2 costs ₹4,000 more than the X1. For that you get:

• A step-through frame that's easier to mount
• Wider 2.4-inch tyres with puncture protection
• A colour display instead of a battery indicator

You don't get more range, a bigger battery or more power. So the value question is simple: are the step-through frame, tyres and display worth ₹4,000 to you?

They share the same 36V 250W motor, 36V 7.65Ah battery, range and brakes. The X2 adds a step-through frame, wider 27.5" x 2.4" tyres with puncture protection and a Cluster C10 colour display. The X1 has a classic frame, 2.1-inch tyres and a battery indicator, and costs ₹4,000 less.

Neither. Both are rated at up to 35 km on pedal assist and up to 30 km on throttle, using the same removable 36V 7.65Ah battery. Real range depends on your weight, the road, traffic and how much you use the throttle, so the two will perform the same for the same rider.

If you only care about motor, battery and range, the X1 at ₹27,999 is better value because those are identical on both. If you'll use the step-through frame, wider puncture-protected tyres and colour display every day, the X2 at ₹31,999 earns its extra ₹4,000.

Both do. The X1 suits smooth city roads and riders who like a classic frame. The X2 is the more comfortable commuter if you stop and start often, ride in office wear, or face potholes and rough patches, thanks to its step-through frame and wider tyres.
