“I Didn’t Just Give Him a Cycle; I Gifted Him Life.”
“I didn’t give him a cycle; I gifted him life.”
That’s Mr. Vikram Vasantrao Shelke for you. He spent many good hours bonding with his son, Atharva, through their shared love for cycling. However, an unfortunate riding incident changed his life.
Having invested in a popular cycle brand, he complained to the customer service team about faulty disc brakes shortly after his purchase. The team dismissed his claims. A sudden brake failure and a high-speed crash on a downhill slope in 2021 left him with life-changing injuries.
At the time, he questioned whether he would ever touch a cycle again.
He began to see safety through an entirely different lens, especially for his son, who was just in high school at the time. Life is limited and precious – he wasn’t going to take matters lightly.
While researching, he stumbled across EMotorad, which he had been still wary of since it had just launched. Our team member said: “I won’t lie, we don’t have a lot of sales to show, but what we do have is love and confidence in our product. We’ll take care of you, even after the purchase.”
It’s been four years since he and his son started riding the EMX+ to work and college. Cruising through 25+ km daily, he says it’s one of the best investments he has made.
An advocate for road safety, he urges lawmakers to create stringent rules for safety among cycle manufacturers. While norms are laid down for other two-wheelers, he believes in safety for all, not just motorbikes. Just as mopeds must undergo regular PUC checks, cycles should also be inspected for vehicle fitness.
