Two Wheels, Three Hearts: Meet Umesh Koira, India’s Vagabond Soul

Meet Umesh Koira, a spirited cyclist from Koira Village, Karnataka, who has woven cycling into the fabric of his life. His journey began at the tender age of 10 when his mother gifted him a second-hand bicycle for Rs. 75, spending another Rs. 250 to restore it. This simple act sparked a lifelong passion that has only flourished over the years.

This journey is no longer solitary; cycling has become a cherished family tradition. Recently, Umesh set out on a 85-kilometre ride, a delightful picnic adventure with his wife, Veena, and son, Radhoksh. Together, they navigated winding roads, shared laughter, and created memories that will linger long after the journey ends. The thrill of cycling as a family fills Umesh with a deep sense of gratitude and connection.

Umesh's journey has taken an exciting turn with his EMotorad e-bike. The added ease of pedaling allows him to relish the experience more fully. No longer constrained by physical limitations, he enjoys exploring new trails and sharing those moments with his loved ones. He sees each ride as an opportunity to make lasting memories filled with conversations and spontaneous adventures.

Umesh shares his experiences and insights from the road through his YouTube channel. He talks about his routes, challenges, and the beauty discovered along the way. His stories resonate with fellow cyclists and inspire others to embark on their journeys. Umesh believes that cycling is not just a hobby; it’s a way of life that fosters connection and appreciation for the world around us.

This summer, he’s planning a 7-day trip spanning 600 kms with his family across the Western Ghats, Coastal Karnataka, Bisle Ghat, Kukke Subramanya, Dharmasthala, Charmadi Ghats, Agumbe, Sringeri, Sirimane Waterfalls, Kollur, Marvante, Kundapur, Udupi, and Hebri.

As Umesh approaches his 50th birthday this year, he reflects on the joy cycling has brought him. “For nearly four decades, cycling has been my constant companion,” he says with a smile. “I can’t imagine life without it. I plan to keep exploring on two wheels until my last breath.” Umesh feels a youthful spirit with each ride, proving that age is simply a number. Each outing reminds him of the carefree boy who once explored the world on his trusty cycle.

As he looks to the future, Umesh envisions more adventures with his family. He dreams of exploring new landscapes and creating stories that will be shared for years. For him, cycling is a celebration of life, family, and the joy of being on the move.

At EMotorad, we’re proud to be part of Umesh’s journey, supporting his passion for cycling and the quest for safer roads. Together, let’s celebrate the adventure that comes with each pedal stroke, fostering a community that values safety, sustainability, and shared experiences.
