Tips to Increase the E-Cycle Battery Life

Need Tips to Extend the Lifespan of Your E-cycle Battery? Let’s Dive In!

Life is better behind two wheels, and when you want to ride for a long time, an e-cycle is your best bud! If you maintain it well, it'll accompany you for the long haul and never disappoint you.

Before we get into the tips and tricks of how to maintain your e-cycle battery, keep in mind that lithium-ion batteries tend to lose their energy retention capacity over a period of time, just like your smartphone battery. So keep in mind that your e-cycle battery replacement is imminent, however there are still things you can do to enhance its battery life and make sure your rides are smoother than ever.

Right Cadence

The higher the speed you accelerate your gear on, that much more the battery will get used up. Whether you’re going uphill or cruising through difficult terrain, you are consuming the battery charge of your electric cycle. Keep your speed smooth and free-flowing. The right pedalling frequency also prevents knee issues and is easier on the joints. Besides having a great joyride, the goal is to pedal easier and enhance your strength and endurance at the same time.

To Charge Or Not To Charge?

One of the most important factors in maintaining your e-cycle battery is proper charging. Always use the exact charger that came with your electric cycle, that way you will be safeguarding the battery for a long time.

Remove the battery from the charger once it is fully charged. Leaving it plugged in for extended periods can reduce its lifespan and we really don’t want that now, do we? So always charge your e-cycle battery in a cool and dry place as the room temperature will also affect the battery. You don't need to wait for the battery to completely drain out before charging it. Partial charges are perfectly acceptable and can actually be beneficial for the battery's longevity.

Pro- Tip - To maximise the utility of your battery, keep them away from metal objects and store these lithium-ion batteries in a cool, well regulated spot.

Storage And Maintenance

Proper storage and maintenance are essential for extending the lifespan of your electric cycle battery. A no-brainer is to always keep your electric bicycle clean and well-maintained. Check for loose connections, dirt, and debris that could affect the battery's performance. A thorough cleaning after every ride, especially during monsoons will help extend the lifespan of the battery. Never skip out on routine maintenance checks so you keep your electric cycle and battery always running smoothly. If you're not using your e-cycle for an extended period, make sure to keep the battery charged to around 50%. Storing it fully charged or completely drained can reduce its lifespan. While occasional deep discharges are fine, frequent deep discharges can significantly reduce your battery's lifespan. Try to keep the battery level above 20% whenever possible. Ride Better

Your riding habits can also impact your battery's lifespan. Avoid overloading as riding with excessive weight can strain the battery and reduce its lifespan. Try to stay within the recommended weight limit for your e-cycle. While the pedal assist feature can make riding easier, using it excessively can also drain the battery pretty quick. Use it on difficult stretches, terrains or going uphill and your battery will thank you. Avoid sudden starts and stops and instead, accelerate and decelerate smoothly to conserve energy.

Be A Hawk

We want to stay grounded and not fly away (that’s for your e-cycles to do), but to keep a watchful eye on your battery's health will ensure it is performing optimally. Most electric cycles come with a battery management system (BMS) that can provide information about the battery's health, if not, you can always track the range and charging time which are the two major factors of a decline in battery health. If you notice any significant drop in performance, it may be time to replace the battery.

In conclusion, maximising the life of your electric bicycle battery requires a combination of proper charging practices, storage, maintenance, and riding habits. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your electric bicycle battery lasts longer and performs better, giving you a more enjoyable riding experience for years to come. Last but not the least, don’t forget to have fun. Happy riding!
